HID bulb (pass. side) cuts on/off - need advice??
sup guys,
so my pass. side HID BULB keeps cutting on/off for the past 2 days. I have a 98 gs4 w/ 9000k (i think - purplish color) bulbs
When I turn on my headlights they both come on. I was driving home and all of a sudden the pass. side light cuts off. so i shut off all my lights, then wait a few seconds and turn it back on again and they both come on. then after a few minutes, it cuts off again.
any thoughts? could it be a fuse? could the bulb be dying? loose connection?
I duno if its the bulb cuz if it was, i dont think it would turn back on. plus aren't these HID bulbs supposed to last a really long time? Not sure what brand it is.
any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.
mods - i know this prob belongs in lighting, but justed wanted to post here for more exposure...could you leave it here for a few days?...thanks

The pass. side comes back and is running at full output right? It may be a loose connection or fuse. I think I'd rule out that your bulb is on the way out. When my HID bulb was almost dead, it would warm up blue, turn pure white, then fade to purple and then flicker like a strobe light.

yeah i dont think its the actual bulb either....cuz when i restart the lights, it seems to come back on at full blast (it starts out dim, then gets brighter)...it does not flicker like a strobe light, it just shuts off completely.
are there separate fuses for each headlight? if so, where can i find them? in the fuse box under the hood or down by the kickpanel on the inside?
ill inspect the connections this weekend, hoepfully its just something loose. i havent done anything recently to the car, except change brake pads and i doubht that affected my headlight...
very weird. it did it again today.

This happened to me about 2 months ago and in my case it turned out to be the bulb. It eventually got to the point where the light turned red then burned out completly. Once that happened, the other bulb (drivers side) sooned burned out. I replaced both bulbs and haven't had one problem since. Found a good deal on ebay 2 new phillips 4300k for $88.00

One other thing to check is the ballast. I replaced one of my bulbs only to find out, a day later, it was the ballast that went bad. Try switching bulbs from each side and see what happens. Of course check all connections first. I doubt it is a fuse since you turn the lights, off then on, and they go back on.

Hey,
Owner of ultrabrightlights.com here. i'm 99% sure its the bulb. Try to take the bulbs off and swap them from side to side..that will probably fix the problem for a little while but eventually you will need to replace the bulbs. When you do replace it, make sure you replace both because if you replace one the colors will never match. One the bulbs burn in the color changes a little so just get a new set of two and leave the working bulb as a spare.
Good luck
