Default removing tree sap...?

i found a big drip of tree sap on my front bumper...
i quickly tried some warm water, but it left a NASTY residue.
im afraid to try paint thinner/nail poilsh remover before consulting you guys on whats good for the paint on my car.

anyone have any tips?

Use a wax/cleaner product. Be gentle, let the product break the sap down. You may have to go over it a few times and try to keep the product wet by applying more before it dries.

I dealt with a TON of tree sap last summer, parked beneath a pine that had had several limbs cut days before. It was awful. And I didn't have a chance to remove it until it had hardened.

I tried everything: rubbing alcohol, turpentine, xylene (which dissolves sap really well but also removes paint -- worked fine on glass, though).

Denatured alcohol was the answer.
It dissolves the sap with minimal rubbing and does nothing to the paint.
Just make sure you wash and wash afterwards.
