DVD movie access with 470?
I left a post on the 470 forum regarding the above, but receive no answers. You guys will know. Can DVD movies be played and where do you put the DVD (in the CD?). Nothing in the manual talks about it, so I assume it cannot be done. However, I have seen pics of a DVD being played (with additional screens added to the rear of the head rests).
Thanks, Phil

My understand is yet, this can be done only in the LS430 and LX470. The vehicle has to be in park, but you can play movies.
I am not certain if you put the movie in your CD player or if there is a separate DVD slot for your nav system (my GS nav is in the trunk under the carpet). I suspect that it would have to go there. Test it out either way and let us know.

Yup
He's Right,
I'm a Lexus Sales rep, i should know. You CAN play DVD movies in the LX470's navigation syste, however the car msut be in park. (saftey thing!) I've had customers who got the programming debugged so that it allowed them to play DVD's while in motion, but obviously, you would lose navigation capabilities.
Enjoy!

Thanks for your patience. Phil

CD (DVD) Location...
Hey buddy,
I learned something new today myself. I asked the tech guys over at work and they said that in order to play the DVD's in the LX470, you just pop the DVD into the regular CD slot. Then in order for it to play, the truck must be in park, AND the emergency brake should be set.
Try it, and let me know.

As if people don't find enough things to distract themselves and rear-end my *** when driving!!! I can hardly wait to get pranged by some fool who's disabled the interlocks on his LX470 NAV system and is watching a DVD while driving!!!!
Scary enough seeing people with a book propped up in the steering wheel; applying makeup is another one of my favorites (since the little woman has to be SO careful to get it just right). AAAAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!
Sorry. Had to get that out. I feel better now.

Hmmm...
Those people must really know how to debug Lexus computers, because, unlesss they know how to do that, they CANT PLAY A DVD WHILE IN MOTION!!!! Unless of course its aftermarket.

Midnite, I'm aware. Your comment that customers were having the "programming debugged so that it allowed them to play DVDs while in motion" is what got me going here.
Aftermarket is, of course, a different story, but I've yet to see a vehicle with a TV/DVD or VCR propped up on the dash. But I'm sure there are (esp since you vouch for it happening) plenty of folks who can't WAIT to watch "The Matrix" on their NAV screen while driving..........
And since the NAV screen wouldn't be very convenient for folks in the 2nd row seats, I think we have to assume that anyone trying to use their NAV as a DVD player while driving is doing so for THEIR distraction, not the kiddos in the back.

Sorry.. bad night.. but..
I agree. the DVD nav system although it does play DVD's and some customers have debugged the system to play it while driving, its not the best way to get entertainment in that car.
I've sold some LX470's with customized entertainments in teh rear headrests. (VCR, DVD, Playstation and so on. But you're right! DVD playing movies up front istn for the kiddies now is it?

I see some people become really **** over this DVD thing. Dang guys, it was just a question I had. I DO NOT plan on driving and watching movies. Just wanted to know where in the hell you put the DVD movie in to play it. I didn't spend 30 years of being a cop without knowing what safety is all about. Chill guys, drive safely!!!

LX-470 DVD playing
Small clarification on playing DVD's in the Lexus LX470. I have a 2002 LX-470 with the 6 DVD/CD changer.
1) DVD can be in any slot
2) Vehicle does not have to be in park
3) Emergency brake must be applied
4) Vehicle can not be moving
So, while Park is not required to play DVD's the vehicle must have the E brake on and not moving (Might as well be in park).
From what I can tell as a layman, there are two sensors, on for the E-brake and a speed sensor.
Informatio on bypassing would be greatly appreciated. Of course I am aware of safety concerns. Lets realize that there is a passenger involved here.
