Advice Needed for GS 430 Purchase
Hi All,
I have been lurking on the Forum for some time while thinking about buying a GS 430. Thanks in part to how much you all seem to love the GS 400s and 430s, I am ready to buy a 430 w/ the ML/Nav package. I plan to buy in the next month or two.
Your advice is needed though.
I had planned on trying to find a slightly used '01 so as to save some $, not take the first year depreciation etc. However, the very few used '01s that I have seen so far (with the ML/Nav) seem to be asking in the $47 -$48 range. At least two dealers around here (San Francisco Bay Area) seem willing to sell a new '02 in the $51 -$52 range.
Questions:
At a savings of only $4 - 5K for an '01, should I just buy new instead?
What is a realistic price for the '01 or new '02?
Could I get a lower price on a new or used in So Cal or elsewhere nearby?
Thanks in advance.

I am very particular in the way I treat my cars. I would think that the average person that trades every year, could care less in how he takes care of it. I also realize that buying a new car makes no financial sense, but at least you get the satisfaction of breaking it in.

Prejudice? Me? Nawwww
Its very simple. The Lexus GS430 is perhaps the worlds best blend of true performance and style with superior elegance and luxury----all while not burning that big of a hole in your wallet.
AND WHO SAID THAT THE RESALE VALUE ISNT AS GREAT AS THE BIMMER? Proportionaly, the Lexus is better, the bimmer might sell for more after a year compared to the GS430 after a year, but dont forget that it costed more!
Now, if you are asking me if I'm bias towards Lexus, you might be right, after all, i sell them!

agree with nader. it is all relative when it comes to car prices. there are tons of used 5series here in LA dealers, and they all ask quite high. only one problem: too many and not enough buyers for them. in contrast, used GS at the dealers goes out like alcohol at a xmas party-you cannot keep enough of them. and i do not even sell lexus.
oso,
my good friend is a general manager at one of the largest lex dealer here in s.cal. for the 02s, you are def in the right price range. if you want to look at the 01s with nav+ml, try not to spend more than $45k plus tax. the 1st year depreciaiton is the greatest, so $4-5k does not really make sense, unless the car is in tip top shape with less than ~8k miles.
let me know via the email below if you have more questions
