Another Show & Tell: Blacking Out The Rear Deck Light
I did this because of my rear deck spoiler install today...

1.) First of all, climb into your back seat, and remove the rear deck brake housing my sliding it abount an inch or so to the left, then getting your fingernail under the plastic and working the housing loose from the rear deck. It's really easy and just takes some wiggling.
2.) Once you get it loose, lift it up a little and rotate the housing towards you, and turn it over so you can see the underside. There is a male to female 3 prong plastic connector under there which has a small detent that you'll need to release, then tug apart to remove the housing from the wiring.
3.) Once you've got it seperated from the wiring, grab some black electrical tape and some scissors!
4.) Cut and tape accordingly; I used about 3 or 4 strips to completely cover the red and overlapped a little...
5.) Reinstall, and for me, I now have to get my rear window re-tinted

If you unplug the light, its been my understanding that a warning light will be lit on the dash control panel since the computer sees the 'no signal' as the light being out.

Unplug
Or you could do what I did, drill a small hole beneath the center light, drop the bulb and socket through the hole into the trunk, tape it to the metal underside, and now who cares if its lit or not.
Unless you have someone trying to sleep in the trunk.
You could also go down to Lexus and buy the GS400 rear deck cover which doesn't have an opening for the center light and install that.
Makes a much better looking installation overall too!
