Default GS 300/400/430 - interference or non-interference motors?

Are the motors in the GS 300/400/430 interference or non interference. I recall my dad's old '94 LS400 was non-interference, but i'm sure things may have changed since that version of the 4.0L v-8.

Last I heard:

VVTi (98+) = Inteference
Non-VVTi (pre 97) = non-interference

Default First post.... Interference YES

The V8 is an interference motor. No doubt. You would be better off to change the rotating components, pulleys pump tensioner than the belt itself. Most of the times it is a rotating component that fails

a general rule to this question: as long as it has vvti, it should be an interference engine.

that's kind of what I was thinking but wanted to make sure.

I'm looking at a few 8X,000 mile GS400's and wanted to make sure I took care of the timing belt if the new 4.0 motors were interference.

how many people know of someone who's had a timing belt go on these motors? I'm used to getting worried around 70k miles on my VW because of weak tensioners.
