My 99 GS400 had the master cylinder replaced at around 75K miles just before I bought the car. As I recall, it was an expensive repair in the >$2k range. Fortunately for me, it was something the Lexus dealer took care of before I bought the vehicle from them - although I'm sure the repair factored into their price...
Sorry about your surprise. Nothing like an unplanned major car repair to take the wind out of your sails.

Hey man, stand-up and explain your brakes problem. A master cyl is not so expensive.
When you stop and the brake pedal slowly continue going down its the master. Also if you have a oil leak under the brake pedal.

basically, like braking doesn't feel as smooth as it should like i would have to always feather my brakes in order to get a smooth stop, i just replaced my brake pads and rotots, and my mechanic said that it was due to the brake master cylinder.
