Wheel Project 50% Completed...
Hi Guys,
I am now 50% complete with my wheel project. In case some of you don't know...I have Gun Metallic Gray SS7 wheels. I got the Gun Metallic Gray color thinking it would look cool on my black GS like a stealth mode/Darth Vader look. Well, I am now admitting the look does not do it for me. Instead of a stealth look, I have a "spare rim" look especially when a lot of brake dust gets on the wheel. It really does not show the spoke design very well.
So...I did some research and found a way to re-powder coat the wheels. First, I had a place strip the original powder coat. When they were finished, the rims looked flat silver with lots of pits (normal for an alloy wheel). I dropped it off at a powder coating shop and selected a new color - stardust silver w/ clear coat (silver metallic). The process should be done by the end of the week. Total cost is around $250 for all 4 wheels. I will post pics of a before and after of the two different colors. I am excited to see the changes on the car!

I'm thinking of powder-coating my wheels, too....
...but the only shop I checked with so far (in Chatsworth, CA) wants $123 per wheel !
Brent, may I ask where in the Torrance area you had your wheels stripped and powder coated?
I have chrome rims right now (see pic below), but they are starting to chip and flake- the end is near. There is a powder coat finish called "Reflectra" that is not exactly chrome, but like polished aluminum. The Chatsworth shop says it should outlast my car.
If anyone has any thoughts on whether I should rechrome or power coat, I'd love the hear from you.

Dang, Ivan- I was all excited that someone responded to my posting so promptly, and I was looking forward to some rechrome vs. powder coating advice, and YOU wanna talk about where my PIC was taken?!
<just kidding, my south bay bud!>
That was taken Saturday at the California Speedway in Fontana, where many of us CL members met last weekend. The paddock area we met at is inside the track- as you can see, the turnout was spotty (5,000 or so race fans- it can hold 89,000). I thought I'd get a few pics in, since I had just waxed the car (I should not have bothered- there were so many supercharged IS300's attracting attention that no one gave my car a second glance!).
Glad ya liked the pic- below is another pic from the Fontana weekend of Area 51's Twin Turbo SC300, the Fastest Lexus in the World (0-60 in 1.1 seconds)!
Plus a few more of mine at the end of:
