2002 GS430 oil change. Help Please
Anyone know what the engine oil drain plug torque setting is. I looked in the owners manual and it seems it is worthless for this kind of stuff. I searched here and could only find 29ft lb for a different Lexus. Are all the same?
I assume that these are the steps:
1. Warm engine
2. turn off engine
3. remove oil cap
4. jack up car to get access to drain plug and filter
5. remove drain plug after getting something to catch oil in
6. clean pan and install drain plug at correct torque(?) with washer.
7. remove oil filter and clean base(again catch oil in something)
8. prime new oil filter and install 3/4 to 1 full turn after it touches base
9. put in correct amount of oil(5.5 qts for 430 including primed oil filter) and install oil cap.
10 turn on engine after putting car on level ground for a short time
11 check for leaks
12 turn engine off, wait 5 minutes, check dipstick for correct oil level and adjust as needed
I am at step 6(duh) with no clue to the torque. Anything I mised?
Can you reuse the oil drain plug washer?

it's just like changing the oil in almost any car except there are a few bolts to take off of the plastic cover underneath to get at filter. I always torque the plug by feel. you can reuse the washer too.

Yes, reuse washer, don't use torque wrench. Just tighten it until its snug using a hand socket wrench. Don't overtighten , it can strip it. You should use hands here because you are not likely to be ale to strip it with hand force, unless you're a beast. Wipe it clean and check for leaks. I would say make it about 70% as tight as the maximum you can make it. It should seat and then be turned about a 3/4 to a turn more to lock it snug. good luck.
