i'm looking at whole sale with estimated retail on the car you looking at and here is how it stacks up on the retail side (i'm not suppose to list the whole sale sorry)

2001 gs300
above 16,300 / 55,600
average 14,500 / 84,000
below 12,700 / 112,500

above is above average condition aka exceptional clean beautiful cars with low mileage
average is well... average condign beautiful cars with average mileage
below is high mileage kinda aaaaaaaaaaa cars condition

hope that helps

wow es dude, we made the same transition, except mine was a 1999 es300, got that car at 79k miles for about $9.5k, changed timing belt, full tuneup, and set of 4 all season michelin tires right off the bat. Drove that beast everywhere, even from NY to South Beach for last year's spring break with 4 buddies of mine. ran the car up to 120k when i totalled it =(

now 4 months later, I found a killer deal on a 2001 GS, same as u described, 17in chrome lexus rims, spoiler, platinum silver on black, factory xenons but the gs300 i got was at 79k miles. But i got a sweet deal from it, 13.5k for the ride, aint that sweet lol. Carfax showed only a minor rear bumper accident that replaced the bumper when the car was at 5k mileage. The ride is in immaculate condition and I talked the dealer down from 14.5k to 13.5k. Just turned the car into my bud's shop for a full tune-up, belt change, changing all 4 tires to michelin all season and changing the battery. This repair/renovation will cost me about 1400 but is still a sweet deal IMO.

18k is too much for 2001gs at that mileage the most it should be going for should be 16k. even then, shooting for 15-15.5k wont be a bad option either

I bought a gs400 for 16 grand with only 73K miles. Yeah it was a 98 but its a sweet piece. I would hold out for the GS400 unless you want to mod the engine. About the Same MPG as the GS3 if you are only into cruising but much bigger smile on your face when you punch it!!!

That didn't make a whole lot of sense..... with wholesale and estimated retail being in the same sentence. He wouldn't be interested in wholesale value considering he probably won't be purchasing his car straight from an auction.

Suggested retail value on the car is $20k-ish, and private party value is about $17,500. $18k seems to be a fair deal if it's through a dealer, but I'm sure you could still talk him down slightly.

best way to figure out TRUE MARKET VALUE is to look at local listings and compare prices. That way he would know if he got a good deal at the time he bought one.

Color combination, sport wheels, HIDS, etc have a lot to do with how high a car is listed.
