If you have to stay with 4 doors:

non-luxury:
05+ Toyota Avalon - big big body ride, lower it, rim it up, you'll definitely be unique.
07 Camry - looks WAAAAAAY hot lowered and on rims. has projector hid lights too which can easily be upgraded to HID

I'm not a fan of the grill but I'm sure you can get a replacement.

mazdaspeed 6
mazda cx-7 or 9
subaru sti
honda pilot 07 with projector headlights
08 xB - these are pretty cool rides when you lower them and throw wheels on it. Here's a car I'm sponsoring:

Looks good huh!?

If you could go 2 door non-luxury:
1) s2k
2) supra
3) nsx
4) sc with a swapped motor
5) lotus elise

luxury rides:
1) Just get another GS
2) Get the turn key luxury vip car in the classifieds
3) 00+ LS
4) Cayenne (be prepared to spend $$ for maintenance)

I'd say to get an IS. When I was looking for a car, everyone influenced me into not buy it because it was so small and less luxury than most Lexus cars. Never again, will I let people influence me when it comes to my money.

Bloody insurance probably gave you no more than 16k for your car.. I would look into a car that has a bit of performance, handeling, braking with incredible safety features out of the box. Yes the GS is a great car, heck it saved your life along with the man upstairs, but that would not make me buy the same model car again.. My old Acura CL crashed into a telephone pole no thanks to an old man that cut me off back in 1999.. Thankfully, I did not sustain any injuries thanks to the man upstairs, airbags and crumple zones.. I did not buy another Acura CL.. Instead, I bought the Lexus GS because I wanted something different, and it was the car I wanted next time around no thanks to the movie Ghost Dog. Heck, I love cars, and driving them period.. I am not a brand loyalist since no car company is paying my bills, feeding and clothing me. Get what you crave... You now have an opportunity to look at other cars as well.. Test drive the vehicles within your budget, and compare said cars with a GS.. For 16k, I would look at these:

99/01 BMW 328/330I
04 Infiniti M45
03 Infiniti G35
04 Acura CL
03 Volvo S40
03 Volvo C70
03 Lexus IS
01 Porshe Boxster (yes in NYC for 16k)

and many more

my dad had a V6 turbo F50 Cima...wasnt too impressed. My Aristo, felt a lot sportier (well, duh). I'd get a Zero Crown Athlete (my dads current car) and it drives awesome!

but in the States....just get another GS. I wouldnt mind having a Camry....wait, yes I would. They do look nice, but something about the "Camry" name or something. I dunno.

I'd have to agree with DASHOKER... Try something different, see if you like it and just go for something that's good for you. I love my GS4, but i'm more of a performance car person (Evo, Sti, Srt).. GL on your search

Do what i did and get another gs. I went from a silver 400 to a silver 430 and Im not anywhere near sick of it yet! I must admit though that I still get cravings for my old mustang everytime I hear one with an h-pipe!! I have looked at everything fom sti's and evo's to cts-v and m5's. Just take your time with the decision if you have another way to get around for a while. To each their own.

BTW that first camry looks good!:......and that infinity!!eek2:

I couldn't do a "downgrade," even for a newer car. As I get older, I've realized that a car makes more and more of a statement of who you are and what you do. Of course, I work in the automotive aftermarket industry in Southern California, so my reality is skewed

I like the Camry fixed-up like that, but the Tupperware front bumper is a deal breaker for me. Also, I tend to like unusual cars; the Camry is a fine car, but WAY too common for me. Give me something unique, with personality.

I'm over 25, so I'd look like a buffoon driving a WRX or Evo 8 (is the obligatory 5" fart can exhaust dealer installed?). The S2000 is cool, but not as an only car- and for similar money, you could get a used NSX (another not-practical car).

I vote for another GS.

You will be hard pressed to find some here that will think outside of the Lexus GS box. As far as the Camry is concerned, if you are looking into a new 07 Camry to dress up, then take a look at this JDM Camry.. A nice thread is going on right now in the car chat section about it.. If my car was smashed GOD forbid, I will not be stuck on the same old ish to put it mildly.. Especially in Lexus GS capitol.. NYC. The Audi A4, 04 Pontiac GTO are other 16k choices.. 330i Bimmer is hella fun to drive

I would definitely go back to a non luxury car. I have actually been thinking about getting rid of my GS and getting something non-luxury like a 350Z or an STI. I do love my GS but I am wanting something smaller and more sportier.

I would go with a gen1 M45 or an 06 G35. I would also consider a near luxury like Acura tl or RL
