How do we tempt an M5 guy?
Hey GS people,
I have a 99 SC400, and I hang out over in the SC300/400 forum. I'm a believer!
I have a friend who has driven a very quick BMW M5 for a decade, and needs to replace it sometime soon. It's a 91 E34 M5, chipped and modified exhaust valve cams, exhaust and suspension work, about 340hp. He's got 125K on it, and it's got a weak valve spring and repairs are ohmygodexpensive. He's decided to replace it rather than fix it. It's only got a loss of power problem above 5500 when he gets some valve float.
He's driven a 99 GS400 (at my insistence), and it fits him, and he liked it, but he neeeeds the juice of the M. 350 to 400hp would do the trick, he says.
What would the best way to get him into a hotrod GS? He's a medical professional, not a tinkerer, just a HP junkie. Auto trans is OK with him, as long as it's a tight one.
Where would he go to find an out-of-the-box GS that will give him the performance he wants? He just wants to pay the money and drive away. No swaps, mods, yada yada. Just go to a known car builder or broker and buy a tasteful, very quick family sedan.
Any ideas? Fire away.

It wouldn't be a Lexus...it would be an E55 AMG. Turn-key factory hotrod.
Lexus does not do it for the hp junkies as a rule of thumb, esp someone coming from a M-5 albeit an older one. Stock GS's are fast but not junkie fast.
just my 2 cents~

The E55 is indeed the problem solver The GS would be a dot in the mirror.. 493 horses, 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, 1/4 under 13 seconds...

yeah..i don't think you can go from M5 to GS.. not the same type of car. one of my members has an M5, although he loves my car, i don't think he'd ever get into one lol. i plan on racing him soon.. he's estimating he's got 400+hp but he's NA, so i wanna run him and see where he's at compared to me lol

My money is on an E55 Amg followed by an E39 M5. All can be had under 40k used.

and does he want a quick car or a fast car? Because GS400s are by no means quick in factory form...

If he's willing to buy new. Then wait for a 2008 Model GS460. That thing has 380hp from the factory and should have a good bit of power. I'm sure a few bolt on's will raise that number to over 400.
Otherwise, the only true and tried option is to get a 2JZ-GTE swapped GS. Reliable high power motor
