Hey guys, my passenger xenon headlight for my 98 GS400 recently went out. Lexus quote me about 1500 bucks Canadian + tax for a "headlamp" which I assume is the whole headlamp assembly, which I dont' need, and around 310.00 + tax for the bulb.
My friend has a few xenon bulbs (+ ballast etc.) for a 99 acura 3.2 TL. I believe the manufacturer is a company called Xenarc, not sure about the model number etc. I can get that from him. Does anyone know who makes the OEM GS400 bulb and what the model is? Perhaps one of the members that work at Carson Toyota could help here? Has anyone purchased one before? I know the chances are slim but I'm thinking there's a good chance that several car companies buy their xenons from the same manufacturer and maybe even the same model, then I can get the bulb for free and have lexus install it.
Thanks!

hey, i recently had one go out on me and found a DIY on replacing the bulbs on here just by searching for a couple of minutes and also the part number for the bulbs is D2R and oem is like 45 or 43000k, i got a set of 8000k-blue bulbs for 40 a peice and put them in in like ten minutes. Google the D2R bulb and you can chose who to buy them from, oh and whatch out for the ones that say off road use only, they aren't legal or something, I bought some anyway-way cheaper.

any way to tell if its the bulb that went out or just some electrical problem? I have heard that before a xenon bulb goes out it turns really pink, and have seen some cars like this. I dont' recall mine going pink, but it used to flicker or cut in and out just before it went out for good...so maybe the bulb itself is ok but there is some loose connection or some other problem?

Currently, there are two major suppliers (high quality that is) of HID bulbs for automotive use. Phillips and Osram are the two suppliers. Xenarc is a trademark of Osram. The OEM bulb that comes in our car are the Phillips D2R 4300K. You can use either Osram or Phillips in your car, but there will be as light difference in color, probably nothing to complain about if you're getting the bulbs for free.
Most ballast should work in your car. The difference will be the shape/size/thickness/etc. Otherwise they will power your HID bulbs fine.
The OEM ballasts in the GS are 1st generation Denso. They are quite huge anyways.
