Default DIY Chrome Grill -- HELP

Hey everyone! I just spent the better half of the day trying to get my grill chrome. I followed the DIY and had good results but I can't get it all and the thinning stuff left a film on the chrome. Does anyone know how to get all the paint off and why it left a film?

or

Where to find a cheap chrome grill?

2000 GS 400.

Go to Home Depot and buy some stuff called Goof Off or Goo Gone and use that to get the rest off. It worked pretty well for me.

That "film" could be due to the fact that you actually "ate" thru the chrome as well. There's grey plastic molding under the chrome, can u see it?

How long did you leave the KleanStrip on for?

I don't think it ate through I only let it sit for about 5-8 minutes at a time. I will have to try some goo gone. I even purchased a drummel and boy that was a waste. I don't know if I like the DIY grill strips on ebay, do they look good?

Do you mean a dremel? I actually cut Q-Tips in half, put them in the Dremel, and dipped them into the Goof Off. Then I used the Dremel on low to get the hard to reach spots.

So I said F it and went down to a chrome plating shop in Denver and they are going to dip it for me. Cost $35. While I was there had them take my trunk bar for the same thing. Cost $50. I'm sure others had better luck with the DIY but I just wasted time and energy. I will pay the $35 to do something like drink on my Sundays.

Good luck

If I knew the trunk bar was only $50 to chrome I'd do that.

what shop in denver? I would ship my grill to them to have this done, just to avoid spending the time actually removing the paint.
