Default '98-'00 OEM tails...any1 interested if I do a DIY clear-out?

I have these OEM tails in great condition just sitting in my basement right now. If I do the clear-out DIY with a dremel or heat (oven/heat gun) would anyone be interested in purchasing? I will clear out the center area completely. This would make for a very rare mod. It's great if you:

1. Don't like the LED tails on Ebay
2. Don't want to spend $1000 on JP tails
3. Not crazy about having or buying '01+ OEM tails

Let me know and I will start this project ASAP! I will sell these custom outer tails with wire harness for $150 with buyer paying the shipping. I am negotiable though. I would use these for myself but I just bought the '01+ OEM tails about 2 mos. ago when I wasn't thinking of doing this DIY. Let me know...

I'm planning on the same thing and have a thread open to get some helpful hints. I'd appreciate any advise you have. GL with the sale.

I know I'd like to try what I own. If it works then I think I'll like them just fine. No need to buy another set of tails.

Do an advanced search. People have been clearing 98-00 tails for years so there should be some good reading available.

Once 2001 hit, (wow 6 years ago!) a lot of people were upgrading to these newer tails. There used to be a CL member who bought the old tails, cleared them and sold them on Ebay , but I haven't heard from him in a long time.

There is no easy way to clear out the 2001 - up tails, from a DIY perspective. There are several old thread discussions on this topic as well.

I heard and read that it is impossible to clear out the OEM '01+ tails as the lens itself is amber/yellow unlike the '98-'00 tails that have an amber/yellow insert behind the clear lens. The (very very very short version) DIY to this is open up, take amber/yellow insert out put back together and seal properly; this does not apply to the '01+ tails.

ive cleared a set of 98-00s before. once you actually DO it and see how annoying it is, and IF you pull it off without breaking them and can seal them back up properly...you're gonna wish you said you were charging a lot more then $150.

Agreed! I hereby recind my offer! lol!!!

Yeah but you know what, I think it would be REALLY hard to sell the OEM '98-'00 outer tails without this DIY. There's just too many options out there that beat the plain OEM ones. I bet you would have a hard time even trying to sell them for $70 bucks! Might as well mess around with a DIY for the possibility of making twice the cash with an easy sale...

actually its not a big deal, and its NEVER hard to find a clublexus member that wants something you dont "need" anymore...like the saying goes, one mans junk is another mans treasure.. a lot of 98-00 owners like the oem look their car has. when i got the 01+ models i believe i sold mine for $100/$150 shipped if recall.

I'd be interested in another set, just in case I bust mine. How much?

I have the 98-00 clear out tail lights and I love them, had the LED ones and don't like the 01+, just doesn't flow with the Burnished gold...If I could get a set of JP original I would swap...

Sorry Rock, no for sale feelers in the forums. If you do clear and decide to sell them, feel free to post in the classifieds.
