Default Starting problem...

01 430..It takes a bit longer to crank over than it should. I would say it takes 3-4 seconds of holding the key turned to get it to start up when its cold. Is this normal or do I need to replace something? I was thinking either spark plugs or something with fuel.

any input? thanks

On the GS4, the starter goes around 100-120k.

I had mine replaces and now it cranks up within a second.

thats kind of sucky. How much does a starter or alternator cost for these cars?

But the thing is, when I turn they key it turns over but doesnt start up right away. Its not like I turn they key and nothing happens.

Sound like the starter is dying out.

But usually its the 98-00 GS400 that has the starter problem.

A starter is $200-250 from lexus. The labor is 6 hours.

This is exactly what I stated in my previous post. It takes a sec or two longer for the engine to fire-up. My time reference is with respect to say the RX family.

I am not talking about starter motor not spining, or slow spin (which could be the battery, posts, solenoid or starter). Although I will admit that once I switched form a the old (oem) battery to Optima red top, it did appear that starter motor spun a tad faster and the engine firing up a little quicker.... but still the RX fires up quicker.

I cringe when my wife as a habit engages the key a sec longer than necessary when she drives my rx. (she has formed a habit starting her GS).

Keep in mind longer and shorter are relative terms. One needs to establish a reference point. For a new owner it can be difficult to determine what is "normal" and what is not.
