Default Purchasing a GS300. What do I need to know?

I am currently looking for a new daily driver and would like to stick with Lexus, currently own a 92 sc300. I was hopeing there would be a sticky in this forum that would provide new comers with information about the 2nd generation gs's. Since there isn't here are some questions I have.

1) Common problems?
2) Are the motors (gs300) strong? Same as sc300?
3) Gas mileage (gs300)?

Thanks ahead of time to those who provide quality information.

Just got a Lexus GS400

common problems

1)failing door actuators
fogged up headlights
starter maybe?

2)GS300 motor is strong, not as much as the V-8 (GS400)
GS300 225hp 7.6 sec 0-60

3)gas around 17-25mpg

Keep an eye out for bad balljoints.. they tend to go bad as the milage gets up there. The engine is similar, still a 2JZ, but the GS300 has VVT-i. The engine is good. As far as mechanical problems, these cars are very well built, and only need maintenance really. I would check out the suspension, like i said before about the ball joints...

I would do a search as this question is pretty consistent.

Like the others have said, ball joints, headlight condensation, door actuators

I would'nt buy anything until you get Lexus to check it out completely and then maybe take it to a local shop for a pre-purchase inspection to be sure. I know two points of inspection would be overkill for some, but my shop found stuff that Lexus didnt find and vice versa...

Carfax is fine, but doesnt tell you that the car has been neglected or in need of repairs, just accident / title history.

1) Starter, ball joints, 90k service, door actuators..
2) Is the 2JZ strong?! As in power? It works. As in actual strength? Oh sweet lord.
3) I get around 17 because i have a heavy *** foot. Actual is around 22 or so..
