I'm truly sorry to hear that such a horrible thing has happened to your friend and his gf. My condolence's to you and his family. I hope they find the culprits that did this. Keep us posted.

The thing is, it is not really a "bad" area, per se. Clarion corporation (stereo/electronics company) is literally right there, the Hustler Casino, which is considered a family entertainment venue, is at the intersection of Redondo Beach Blvd and Vermont, where I think this happened. It is a border between light industrial and residential zoning, and is dead at night, but to locals, it is a normal, common thoroughfare to get to the freeway. Apparently it attracts carjackers and thieves, too, for the quick access to the freeway.
