Yea, I was having the same problem, so I replaced my ball joints, tie rods, front brake pads and rotors friday evening, got it aligned saturday morning and took it for a road test afterward on 95. No more vibration, no more shiftiness at high speeds and tighter steering. I had a good amount of play in both ball joints and my right outer tie rod boot was badly ripped. I would be happy as hell, but I took my '99 GS4 to get the timing belt and waterpump replaced after my road test, and the mechanic screwed up and bent some valves. Now I gotta wait what seems like an eternity to get my car back in working condition with a compromised engine after the header pull. But definitely change those ball joints. You will be glad you did.

Just to put this item to bed for me anyway.

My car is 100 percent wobble free, a 124,000 miles.

Propshaft alignment !!

The final part of this vexing puzzle was
the propshaft fwd and aft
sections were mis-aligned,
(incorrectly assembled by a previous owner or mechanic ?),
so I re-aligned them on the ground (off the car),
spray painted a marker line on them,
and re-installed the driveshaft,
using the marker line to guide me.

For my other efforts to eliminate my various and multiple wobbles,
read back along this thread.

She is wobble free up to 160mph now, which will have to do....

What part of our little traffic laden island did you manange to get that speed?

Anyway, did you also change your flexible couplings at each end of your propshaft?

I had a pronounced shake at 58-62 and at 80-84

Wheels are new ....
Hub Centering rings installed ...
Lug nuts torqued to spec ...
Tires balanced twice on Hunter Machine with Road Force Balancing ...
Alignment checked twice ... (once with deadweight in the car so the car was at the operating suspension height)

I changed out my lower balljoints AND OUTER TIE ROD ENDS and the shake is gone ! I get an ever so slight vibration at 70 now but only I notice it. My wife (who complained about the previous shake) doesn't even notice it.

I'm going to put in Daizen Bushings on the steering rack and the swaybar ASAP to see if that smooths things out even more.

Try doing a search in this forum for vibrations, you'll get many threads. There are alot of things that cause the vibrations, but a few things that really seem to help are:

steering rack pretensioner adjustment
hunter road force wheel balance
quality rims, not cheap bargain basement cast rims

The tensioner adjustment I thought you can only do on 98's?

Graham,

Would you be so kind as to tell me how you re-aligned the propshaft on your lexus?

I did some work on my wifes 2011 Lexus GS450H and the drive shaft came apart before I had a chance to match mark it.

It would be awesome if you could be able to help me.

I can't seem to find how to do it on any webpage.

Thanks so much!

Bret
