We get horrific gas mileage. I expected better considering im a gs300. My older commute Avalon which was a 99, V6 3.0 was getting me 415miles to the full tank..... what a difference. Same commute.

GS400 and I have been getting around 260 miles out of a tank; about 20/80 highway/city. I can NEVER seem to get my car up to 270+ even if I drive VERY slow for the whole tank. I had almost every fuel saving service done. Maybe my K & N intake is the culprit?

So on a 2GS300, is the consensus that the gas mileage degraded when going from stock 16" to 18" (245/40/18)?

Is this something "normal"?

maybe. the 18's are heavier, and since they're wider they create more resistance to the ground. i have stock 17's and i average 480kms~300miles per full tank.

My '02 GS430

-- With 235/45 17's and dirty air filter driving in city - Between 330 - 335 miles with the needle at bottom

-- With 235/45 17's and new K&N drop-in filter driving in city - Between 340 - 345 miles with needle at bottom

-- With 245/45 18's OEM 5 spoke and new K&N drop-in driving in city - 330.0 miles. I just filled up 19.5 gal today. Had only .3 gals left in the tank.

My computer said I got 17.3 mpg. on that tank.

I have a '03 GS430 w/ stock 17" and I get about 300 miles per tank for 50% city driving. If I could reduce weight of the wheels, would that make much difference to the gas milage? by how much?

That's really strange that you only get 300mi on 17's. Are you running the needle to the very bottom? Unless you're gunning it from a standstill all the time, you should be able to get more than that...

To be precise it's 300 miles per 16 gallon, averaging about 19mpg. That's about right I'd say. But going back to my question, compare heavy 17" to light 18" wheels... would the wheel weight matters more than the wheel size? Not trying to be scientific or anything, but is there some sort of theory behind it?

I will never, ever thrust any GS4/3 giving more MPT than a Corolla!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Common boys; be realistic.
330 to 360?? impossible! unless you turn motor off in a long down hill or someone pull it.
I w'd expect 220 to 240 mixed driving (this is 17 mpg) for the GS4 and a little more for the GS3.
Can't imaging a car that thru years produce better mpg that the EPA estimated when new.
Fill the tank, reset the odometer... drive it, fill the tank again whenever; take the odo readings VS the galons in the service pump... divide it and this is the real MPG. Not what the computer says
My 4cyl Integra gives 22.8, my GS4, 17, my brother brand new IS 250 about 24...

My next project is gonna be to build a high MPG GS300

Specs:
-Completely refreshed suspension. All joints and bushings replaced.
-Completely refreshed engine. Pull it apart and rebuild them motor from the ground up so everything is like new again. Pistons, piston rings, bearings, seals, new high temp valves, head job, etc.
-Modify the engine to be a leaner burning setup. High temperature stainless valves will be fitted.
-Intake and exhaust built with higher efficiency in mind
-Roll on stock 16's
-Most of all I will put a 3.23 GS400 rear end on the car to dramatically reduce the RPMs.

I hope to get into the mid 20's as far as fuel efficiency goes. This is a build contrary to what everyone else does lol. I'm going to make the car slower rather than faster. Rather than a stock 0-60 of 7.5sec, it wil probably be around 8.5 sec when I'm done

I need something more practical for my daily. The 700hp beast in the garage isn't so kind on gas

If my math serves me correct and you emptied the tank and filled with with let's say, 19 gal. (tank holds 19.8) and you only get 240 miles, you're getting about 12.6316 MPG. How'd you come up with 17?

Jeff, you should try to invent cylinder deactivation into that FI GS of yours...

Uber, I'm putting in about 19 gal. and calling that a full tank....

Most i've ever had to put in the tank is 15.8 gal on the empty light (Average on empty is 15.5), when i kept pushing past the empty light, most i've gotten to is 18.2gal (536mi, 29mpg)

I average 320-340/tank (20-22mpg) to the empty light in a GS400
