(Cliff notes at bottom) Can anyone guess the movie referance in the title? Sooo...I just got wheels and tires about 2 months ago and I find a slow leak in my passenger rear. Long story long, I have a shop look at it and they tell me they found a nail. They said it was too close to the firewall and cannot be patched/plugged. They tell me they cannot find my tire anywhere. I have Yokohama es100 275/30/20. They have a Bridgetone they can give me and I will be back on the road by the time I leave work. I tell them to go for it, but start getting the feeling like I might be getting screwed...maybe it was a slow Monday and they need some business. I search the Yokohama site, and they do not even offer the tire I have. I call a few tire places...same story. I email the shop I got the wheel/tire package from. They tell me they recently had a customer with a similar issue and were not sure why the tire was not available. I end up spending $300+ for the tire mounted/balanced. Not a great Monday. I ask to see the tire and they tell me it is in my trunk. I get home and look at it. Now I am no tire expert, but can anyone tell me if this could have been patched/plugged?
Cliff notes- Slow leak in tire. Shop says found nail and too close to firewall to repair. No shop can find the exact replacement tire and not even offered on company website. Could this tire have been plugged/patched? Thanks

I've had my fair share of nails but i'm not really sure.. I would take it to another shop pay the 12 dollar patch job and see if it hold air.. The outside may look good but the inside might not have any room to grid the tire and patch it.. GL.. keep us posted..

That close to the sidewall... I dunno. I remember when I used to do that for a living, the patch that we put on the inside of the the tire was about two-three inches across. So, putting a patch so close to the sidewall was never a good idea because it wouldn't have the flat surface needed to make a good seal.

On the other hand, it would be very easy to plug with the Worms. Those are designed for cases just as this. When it's too close to the sidewall and replacement isn't an option... you cover the worm with glue, push it in the tire and cut off the remaining bit. Once you fill the tire with air, it plugs the hole right up! I'm not really surprised they didn't offer that... they probably wanted to sell you 4 new tires...

I have my tire guy in Brooklyn patch my tires with an "inner patch" rather than the "worm plug" in the event get the dreaded nail in tire. Heat build up and road surface can deteriorate a worm plug. You won't have such a problem with inner patch(s). A nail in the sidewall=new tire purchase period..
