toyota/lexus has problems with this it happened to my moms camry and to my gs. Its the cable ...its too loose. Try to grip it and push it back in.....this helps for me.

happened to my GS. Dealership they'll install a brand new latch or something for a mere 500 dollars...i told them to shove it.

Facing your engine, to your right by the headlights, there are wires running under it to release your hood latch. Pull on it, and try closing it again. I do this when my hood acts up.

hey guys...i tried tuggin on the cable and i did feel it a little loose, but it did nothing. I also checked the bumper stops as well... and i also tried wd-40 on the latch parts under the hood. I dunno what the problem is...but i DO know that when i release the latch from the inside of the car (to pop the hood) it doesnt make that sharp clicking snapping sound....its kind of a dull soft release.

So is it latching and not locking? It sounds to me like it's not locking all the way down...

thats what i initially thought also. But when it latches, no matter how much force you apply to it, it wont go down any further.

Have you checked ALL tracks under the hood? Something might be in the way even if you don't know it. Check down by the grille area too.

hmm...that's odd. sounds like something's stuck under the hood. When mine happened, it would go down, but just wouldn't latch all the way. odd...keep us updated.

First time posting here and this thread hasn’t been active in 15 years but funny enough I’m having almost an identical problem to OP except I was the dummy who jacked the car up from the front, just wondering if there was ever any conclusion or fix, maybe somebody else has had the same problem since then and figured something out

These are the most difficult vehicle I have ever seen to jack up correctly, in the front use the crossmember that runs under the engine, then throw your jack stands under the same piece, then the rear diff support is your only option out back.
If you bend something doing it incorrectly, the only solution is to correct whatever is bent, u might try standing on the upper radiator support and seeing if you can relocate your latch to it’s original location

I have a puck that sits on my jack pad with a slot that locks it into the pinch welds. I jack it up that way since it keeps them from getting mushed.
