My friends had M3s and AMG 36/43 and they were having problems with their cars...Wouldn't expect that from a 45K+ car...I had a Supra and was sold with their reliability, too bad it got Stolen.

I thought it was gorgeous when it first debut in 98'. Luxurious, fastest automatic sedan at it's time. HID/Yellow light combo, big pimp sedan, with Toyota's reliability. Saw a black one on the road when I was 19 and thought to myself "That would be something nice to have at 40". I picked one up at 24.

I bought my GS400 in Dec 98'. It was more car for the money than a 540i and I thought the styling was fresher. The level of standard equipment in a Lexus is a good selling point as well. Similarly optioned, the Lexus generally comes out ahead. The fact that I'm a rabid Toyota fan made it an easy choice.

Alcohol made me do it. I brought my MDX to the dealership for the 30k mile maintenance. I decided to kill some time at happy hour at a nearby bar. Went back to pick it up but it wasn't ready yet. Saw the GS in the lot...next thing I know I'm driving home with a GS430. True story, and I have no regrets. But, I'm never going to a dealership loaded anymore.

The GS has style, comfort and power. What else do you need in a car? I got my 99 GS4 about 9 months ago. Once I saw the diamond white pearl with the black leather interior, I had to have it. I would have to say that the gen2 GS is one of, if not the best designed car lexus has come out with. The SC3/400 comes in at number two, but you've got the power and the space in a GS. I am, however, quickly realizing that maintenance on a lexus has a lexus price - but hey, if you can't afford the upkeep, dont bother buying the car, right?

Read a review in 98 right after the debut of 2nd gen - called it velet lightning. Test car was the wonderful blue. Took 7 years but worth the wait. Now will trade for a 07 LS 460 L in a year or so. Our cars can be almost anything you want - stock or mod'ed - a great driving experience with lots of room for personal expression.

When I saw this pic back in 98, that was it for me. I couldn't believe that was a Lexus. It even looks lowered in here too.
