i picked up a used k&n intake, it's missing the gasket that fits onto the MAF sensor. i was going to cut one with some corkboard, but i need to know the thickness of the gasket that k&n ships with the intake. anybody have one handy?

i think you can call k&n and they will send you a new one for few bucks.
it is only about 1/2 foam, but when it's compressed it's only 1/8 think if that.

i was under the impression that the k&n gasket was a little bit thicker than the stock one which make a difference with the maf sensor placement.

the MAF measure temperature and volume of air. No matter where you place it (depth into the pipe), it should be the same reading.

sorry gsteg, but i have practical experience with other cars that says the maf sensor placement is VERY important. if i put a spacer on the maf sensor on porsche and datalog engine readings before and after i can guarantee you (because i've actually done this before) differences will show up. i don't see why the lexus sensor would be any less sensitive to placement.

Try it on our car. I've used 3 different gaskets (all different thickness) on our car because like you, I thought it was going to make a difference. I had access to a Toyota scanner to measure the temperature when I was experimenting with custom intake pipings. It's all the same with no adverse affect.

Take it for what it's worth. If you feel comfortable with the K&N gasket, then go for it. No harm done, but no harm in using OEM gasket either.

i've got a scanner that works with the gs4, but you really need to datalog the MAF signal to see the difference because it shows up when the engine is under heavy load as opposed to sitting still revving. also my experience is that the IAT is not affected, rather the MAF voltage signal.

not trying to be contrary here, it's just that i've seen this very issue cause problems before.
