Default Ball Joints?! 93k miles

Just got a sweet deal on my gs400 with 93k miles on it...i just got my timing belt , water pump, spark plugs done...and just wanted advise about the ball joints...at my mileage is it time?? i know it won't hurt if i do it now but just want some opinions..

Ball joints, tie rods, steering rack bushings, should be done.. give Sewell Lexus a call.. GL..

Call up Sewell and order the ball joints, and maybe the outer tie rods. Here is a DIY I wrote up about replacing the two. Its not that hard and it will only cost you $200 in parts. Don't end up paying some rediculous amount for labor...its relatively easy. Here is the link to the DIY.

All you people who replace ball joints: Do you replace them with the same OEM part that was on there before? If so, whats to prevent them from failing again?

The new balljoints are suppose to be the 'updated' version which is 'supposedly' stronger.

1. jack up your car
2. get yourself a glove or towel
3. try to move the front wheel up and down, see if there's any free play
4. if there is, replace the joints now.

great thanks fellas, just wanted to be clear...i got a buddy that works at lexus and just wanted to make be clear on what i needed...ball joints is definitely a go, what about tie rods, steering rack bushings? i mean i know once again it won't hurt to replace but i am on a budget (that's why i got a 1998)

i just callled Lexus of Wilmington, asking them how much will it be to change Ball joints, tie rods, steering rack bushings, the guy said dont spend exta cash if not borken yet, wtf...he wonldnt even give me an estimate

i have almost 89k on my car, have 20" wheels and suspension upgrades done on my 2000 gs ..i am just scared that one day my ball joints are gona go, i had a mechanic check them out around couple of months ago he said they are fine ..i still wana change it just as a precaution

that is utter BS. this is what it looks like AFTER the ball joints break. Tie rods can wait, not the ball joints. I think 150bucks is cheap insurance.

and guys, this subject has been covered numerous times, search first.

btw, lower ball joints alone will be 525 (estimate) through Lexus. Tie rods and lower ball joints will be over a grand.
