I made filters for 3 of our cars, and i have enough for 3 more. EIther way strong work....

Did the filter you have have the carbon in it? That is the only reason I got this filter. I am concerned with the odor factor. You might be correct about the filter media not being as good??? NOT SURE. Maybe for my third prototype of this I should use the carbon along with a high filtration filter??? Not sure what the rating of the filter that I chose was. I see a MERV 9. what does that mean?

Open the glove box, remove the partition that makes up the back wall of the box, pull the filter cover located behind the glove box off, remove the filter (it slides out) replace the filter element with either the factory element or one of your own fabrication using a furnace filter. Be sure to orient the filiment in the proper direction for the indicated air flow. Replace the cover and partition reversing the steps when you removed them. Do a search, there is a DIY on here somewhere with pics.

In all honesty, the carbon thing seems more of a "added bonus" in cleaning and what have you, considering the dirt that gets in there, the high surface area IMO is more necessary than the carbon

I was thinking today that your right... I was going to look through lowes and buy the GOOD filter and then go over to the HEPA air cleaner aile and buy some carbon to get the best of both worlds.

Sweeeet!!! I had looked up a new cabin air filter at Autozone and Bosch makes one but its $15. But now get a better filter for $10 and can take care of some of my smoking habit odors? That is just pure greatness. Thanks from the DIY write up!
