I use the Pure One. Read that it was compatable to the Mobil 1, Amsoil and OEM. I think if you change it every 3k-5k it doesn't matter too much what brand. Does anyone know if the OEM filters at the Toyota dealers are the same as the Lexus dealers? The part number may be the same but is one made in Japan vs. US. For my TL I was told the Acura dealers stock the ones from Japan vs the Honda dealers made in US. Someone took both apart and the Japan one was made better.

I bought a case of the TRD filters a while back. These were the ones that retail for something like $20. I was lucky enough to get them for about $7 apiece. Larger than the stock Toyota filters. I need a full 6 quarts with each oil change.

Does anyone know if you can take your filter off and then drain the oil? Or do you have to drain the oil and then take the filter off?
In other words -- if you take the filter off without draining the oil first will all the oil come rushing out of the filter opening? Or will it not matter and all the oil stays in until you pull the oil plug?
I've always wondered about this ... let me know. Thanks!

I usually drain the oil first before pulling the filter...just a habit I guess. However, for most cars you should be able to remove the filter without having a bunch of oil gush out. I can confirm this works for the GS300. I use Amsoil which is good for 20-30K miles but requires filter changes in between. I just pull out the old filter, screw in a new one, and then add about half a quart of oil back in.

Has anyone had valve noise (ticking) because of oil filters? I tried a fram, and ended up pulling it off that same week because it immeidately made ticking noises, then tried mobil 1 for under 3k because it was only slightly less ticky. I bought four filters at the stealer and i think they were a little cheaper than the mobil one ten dollar filters, if i remember right.
