Should I buy a GS?
I am not the owner of a Lexus even though I said I owned one, sorry if ownership of one is required to be a registered user. I am in the market for a car. I am about to turn 20 in november and I am planning to buy my very first car(yay!!) The car I want and is in my budget is a GS300 1998-2000. I can either buy that or a standard 2006 chevy monte carlo or any 2006 car that isnt a luxury car(scion tc,scion xb etc). I was wondering what would you all go for(sorry for asking knowing this is a lexus owners club) I just want to have a car that looks good and not that not any 20 year old can own(buying cash, have been saving a lot). I am going to customize vehicle with body kit,rims,audio/video. Please help. I really like the Gs300 but I dont wanna drive something that people think is outdated. All input would be greatly appreciated.

i faced the same questions when i bought my gs400 3 years ago. either a brand new scion tc, an acura cl-s, or a gs400. and then, i fell in love with the silky smooth v8 and the rest is history.

If you were my kid, I would recommend a 2004-06 pre-owned "something" that is nice! Work your way up to a Lexus......you want to have something to look forward to! That's the father in me.
Now, if I were you today, I would buy the GS....... What a contradiction!!!!

nah i dont think they are at all. I had a lady ask me if i was a famous rapper last night while riding in my 2003 gs300 last night lol. The average person doesnt know that our car is a gen. old the just see it as a nice lookin lexus. BUt if im you I wouldnt get one as my first car. I would start with a normal non luxury or atleast an american luxury (say high end buick) before you move to foreign luxury. Its alot more expensive from a maintenece and insurance standpoint trust me im 23 and i got a rude awakening with my lexus so far. But it is an awesome car

If it was my daughter, I'd tell her to buy a brand new tc...in this case, I thnk a gs3 would be the answer.....

get a gs
I have gs400 bought it last year put almost 30k miles in it I have spent maybe 2k in maintence not repairs and 10k in mods my car should be good for another 100k miles I considered buying a new maxima g35 acura tls even a new gto and ford gt . I can sincerely say that 2nd generation gs is a timeless design with some minor mods these cars stand out like nothing on the road I get complimentss almost every day get a gs you won't regret it if had a choice i would do it all over again

I'm 21 with a GS so nothing wrong with that. Just get a jood job, start saving, and pay it all off
As for the biggest rims, I think someone fit 22" on the GS while having it lowered. The look was "ok" but a lot of people didn't like it. Do not, I repeat...DO NOT put 22" or 24" and a lift kit. I think the Lexus mob will be after your *** if you do that lol. Anyways, back to the discussion...most here will agree that the biggest rims that look right/good on the GS will be about 20".
