My dealer quoted me over $650 to install L-Tuned shocks and springs (excluding parts). $30 more for installing the wheels. What do you think about this? I personally think it's too much.

TXSTYLE,
do you have any picks of your car? I'd like to see the L-tuned drop compared to the stock setup... is the 7/8" difference at the back even noticeable?

$650/$690 is ridiculous. My L-Tuned springs/shocks install, by my expensive Lexus dealer, was $440 including a 4 wheel alignment.
I did the ECU myself (even I could do it).
Manny - as for pictures of drop, it is noticeable, pics on my web site if interested (actually there's older pictures of my car stock, and newer ones with L-Tuned setup).

Where did you get your L-Tuned parts? From your dealership or from steve or from somewhere else? I thought my dealer was charging more because I told them that I was going to get my parts from else where.

I finally got my parts from Steve at Carson City Toyota after all kinds of shipping hell (miscommunications) and had them installed at a specialty shop here in Dallas. Again my suggestion would be for you to buy the parts and have a reputable shop install them.

One note of caution re installation at other than a Lexus dealer: these parts have full Lexus warranty but I'm not sure that one could expect that warranty to be honored if installed elsewhere.
Also, over on the Edmund's GS board, about 5 months back a correspondent posted pix and a story from hell re installation of L-tuned suspension at a "reputable" shop and then subsequent spontaneous disassembly of the right rear suspension while doing about 60 mph. He then had a short but exciting series of swerves which culminated in some moderate body damage from a retaining wall but, fortunately, no other injuries or vehicle involvement. The shop then tried to disavow any responsibility for their work.
Caveat emptor.

I posted this earlier I thought, but it miraculously disappeared.... Anyway what I stated was that we all know what we have and how much it cost. Therefore it is only sensible that time and effort and research is taken to locate a "reputable" shop. I have modified several vehicles I've owned over the years and have no horror stories to date. My advise is take the time to have an depth conversation with any potential shop, ask if you can observe work in progress, and most importantly check with your piers who have used these shops. As far as factory warranty is concerned, obviously if that is most important to you, by all means go with the dealer. But if you want to save a little cheddar without risk to your ride "Take the time & do the research!"
