Question Are the fogs made of glass? or can they be sanded down?

My fogs are very pitted with all kinds of small nicks, and marks from the previous owner (Im not really sure how they became this way).

Anyhow, I couldnt help but notice that the fogs were made of glass, unlike the headlights, which are made of plastic.

If so, is there any way to get rid of all the little nicks everywhere?

thanks.

I think they are made of plastic...but it's a VERY hard and tough material. I spent 5 minutes on a powered belt sander and just managed to scuff it up lol. Honestly, it's not worth your time to try to repolish them. It's gonna be VERY hard to. Just buy a new set

I'm pretty sure the fogs are made of glass. I've tried to to open them up before with no luck. Totally different from the headlights. The nicks come from rock chips. My fogs have a bunch of them. Since the fogs are low to the ground, they get hit with rocks when you drive.

The threadstarter in this thread stated that he was able to sand them down with low grit sandpaper but he's the only one I've ever seen that has done it. I'm not sure if you can sand glass. Seems pretty dangerous to me.

what about some Scratch-X by meguiars? It's not going to do anything to the cracks, but it could get rid of some of the scratches and nicks.

yeah definately wont help the pitting, at best it'll just make it a little smoother.

Thought they were glass.

Im going to be replacing the front headlight housings soon, so I thought I'd wet sand them up while im at it. But i guess not.

We'll they arent bad enough to warrant replacement. Matter fact, its one of those things you notice when holding the fogs in your hand. I was just wondering if I could put a little effort, and make them loook better, but I'll just try and polish them a bit.

yeah.. if you're going to do some work on the headlights anyways then go ahead & give it a shot.. no harm in that.. & if it's just too much work then just pop it back in & leave it alone.. nobody really gets low & takes a look at your fogs anyways.. haha
