Default 02 Navigation Unit Repair

My navigation unit gave out and now only displays unable to read dvd. I spoke to a tech at my local dealership and was informed that its more than likely broken because he wasnt even able to eject the dvd. He actually advised against replacing through lexus and was better off either getting a portable unit or trying to find a used unit on ebay. Has anyone ever had one repaired and if so where? Ive been searching google and cl and havent found any answers on whether these units are repairable. any info is greatly appreciated. thanks

He's probably afraid you'll go to Lexus and they'll tell you to replace the disc. The only way to eject a disc is with the key on. Most people don't know that. I would try it again myself, I have seen a few people with this problem replace the disc and be fine.

Sorry I should have stated that the DVD wont eject. Ive tried it with the key in the ON position, with the car on and off. That lead the tech to believe that the unit itself has failed and would need to be replaced. Ive lost all the navi features and maintanence reminders but the info screen still works (cruising range, MPG ect..) I asked if these units are repairable and he didn't know because the only nav units hes ever seen failed were replaced under warranty.

Why would the tech tell you its broken, and to get it fixed outside the dealer if he had the intention to deceive you?

I have only seen one nav system fail, the cust had installed a trailer hitch and not sealed the wiring properly. Needless to say salt water and electronics don't mix.

I have seen lots of stupid things come from outside shops. With out all the info I assumed he (the tech) just didn't know how to get the disk out.

If you have no info at all other than basic mileage that does sound like an ecu problem.

What year is your car?
