New M5/E55 competitor: Jag S-Type R
Check out the preview. I always liked the S-Type, although Jag's legendary (lack of) reliability and boosted price made me shy away. I like the idea of an adaptive suspension, although previous efforts have only been mediocre. It doesn't say how much this car will cost unfortunately. I bet it will be pretty expensive, probably more in line with the E55 than the M5.

It has good looks (too cramped inside for my tastes, and I'm only 5' 10"), but a $50K ford, no thanks. It's the same with Crhrysler: they look nice, but are crap. As you know, the Jag S is just a lincoln LS dressed for dinner. And the X, you might ask? It's a contour (yikes!).
It's a little uglier than its competition, but my money on a 4-dr V8 is still on the GS (best value, I think).
Cheers!

Decent looking, but doesn't seem that fast - at least 0-60:
I'm guessing 5.5 is within reach of what a GS4 can pull with a SRT HFI and TC.
I'd rather have the GS with the performance, reliability, and customer service; wait...... I DO.

The really good thing if you all think about it with the introduction of the S-Type R is it pushes Lexus just a bit more to bring out their iteration of the Super Sedan (GS450 or GS500).. Well lets hope this happens.. Imagine a factory produced GS with around 450 hp AWD 0 - 60 in lets say 4 seconds and Lexus reliability to boot.. Oh wait let me wipe the drool from my face.. LOL
We can always dream can't we??
Food for thought none the less..

the Jaguar R s-type WILL pull on GS4, especially on high end power. the extra 100 hp will make the difference.
Jaguar's V8 still remains British engineering, but the V6 is just Ford Duratec V6, with Jaguar headers/intakes modification. The Xtype Jag looks styling at the surface, but underneath it just a another Ford horrible engineering/reliability and powerless.
IF u are to buy anything from Jag, at least get a v8. Personally I wouldn't spend 60k worrying if I have a british pretigeousy or Ford engineering.

Yeah, the S-Type is small inside. My old boss' wife had a 4.0 and he'd bring it in occassionally. The interior never really impressed me. Other than being small and lacking interior storage space, it's lacking some basic features like single-touch everything, etc. I applaud their early attempt at voice recognition, but it never worked very well.
While the S-Type shares its underpinnings with the Lincoln LS, there are huge differences. I've driven the LS V8 and ridden in the S-Type 4.0, and the former feels sluggish while the latter pulls pretty hard (not GS4 hard, but pretty good). Aside from the extra 0.1L of displacement, the Jag's engine has VVT, etc., over the LS' engine. I like the LS' tranny better than the S-Type's, though (and that's saying quite a bit considering how crappy the LS' tranny is!). J Gate has never really done anything for me.
My first thoughts were also that this should push Lexus to release a tuner version of the GS. Now MB, BMW, Audi, and Jag have them, and heck, I've even read in a few places that the next-gen Acura 4.0RL will have a Type S!
I'd still buy my GS430 over any of its competitors, although if Audi would put a decent navigation system in the A6 2.7T (chipped) or BMW in the 540i Sport, they'd be serious contenders.
