I can't believe we havent solved the problem yet!
ANDD that so many people are having it!!!

I got my inner tie rod ends, My rear bearings...Tires rotated, alignment (2 times) new brakes, new rotors....

All that changed primarily because of the vibration...and guess what!?!

Its still there

I notice hte vibration in the whole steering and the coulmn that extends below it.... like the whole assembly of the steering shakes! noticeably!!

I have yet to do one last thing:

A road force Balance...

If i get the vibration after the balancing....

I think I will give up :-(

Unlike msot of you..I experience my vibration at speeds in between 55-65

58 being the most prominent...I hope road force solves my problems!

I just replaced all my brakes, rotors and pads front and rear 2 weeks ago. Before i did this, my GS had never shook once at ANY speed. After I did it and still from 55-70 mph I have a very noticeable shake. Havent had time to re-tighten the wheels and see if they are just out of balance from being non-hubcentric, if that doesnt fix it, I am going to assume it has something to do with the braking system.

I just had mine road force balanced at the dealer last week and its a lot better. They seem to be familiar with the issue and quickly eliminated the other usual suspects.

Other suspects considered were the wheel hubs, A-arms, driveline, rims, tires. Bottom line in my case was that the dealer was able to road force balance the rear wheels enough to mitigate the constant vibration. If there is other damage to the car, the dealer will likely spot it since they see 100s of G2 GS cars all the time. If your car is close to stock it shouldn't be too hard to narrow down the list.

Since my car has new shocks and springs, it rides harder than stock, so the vibration in my case was at least partly due to the mods, and less than perfect roads here in ATL. I can't imagine where in NY you would find a road smooth enough to determine if the problem was really corrected. (Maybe the L.I. Expressway. It seemed to be newly paved last time I was there.)

My car was horrible when it was stock...even other people new to driving the car would mention the vibration. I am at a loss and what causes it. It must be something unique to the harmonics. Has everyone tried tightening up the steering pre-tensioner? That helped on mine originally.

I have a place for you in Brooklyn that can balance your tires and any NYC member who is having this problem. I travel all the way from Queens to this place when I need balancing for my cars. PM me if you are interested.

I had violent shakes at 62-67 mph. After the N2, it made it SOOO much better.

Hope that helps a bit.

I did the same thing and it made a big difference in the ride of the car.

pre-load on the steering rack is a known issue as well which any dealer worth going to would definately check. Been there done that.

If you experienced vibrations when the car was completely stock than this is definitely a build design flaw that seems to be only in the GS's? IS this happening in the 300's as well? I thought it was because we all were modifying the suspension in some way or the other but if this is happening in stock form than there's a problem for sure..

Default Lexus TSB (CP-8007) - Steering Flutter Fix

Has anybody tried the 10 page Lexus TSB ref CP-8007 (June 1998)???.

I got my hands on this faxed TSB and it has full details on how Lexus thinks this 'Flutter' can be fixed including a nice flowchart.

The flow-chart details and suggests the following checks on cold/warm tire flutters (with tolerances):
Tyre radial run-outs, Brake disc radial run-outs, Axle hub lateral run-out, on-car balancer, steering rack guide, steering rack pre-load, rack grommet, tracking.

This TSB is for VIN ranges:
JZS160-0001001 to 0025043

That is basically the page that I was referring to in my last post. I am specifically talking about the link in the first post on that page; provided below for your convenience!

Maybe give that one a try!

I've had similar experiences too. I have fairly new lower ball joints and outer tie rods, Daizen steering rack bushings, adjusted pre-tensioner, alignment, road-force balanced tires, etc. and I still get vibration with my 18" 07 GS430 wheels. The amount of play in the steering is just ridiculous. This is my only complaint about the car.
