if he puts it in 2 in manual shift and he starts the car from stop, it will start from first gear, unless it's in snow mode i believe.... tell him to read the manual, the number only states the highest gear the car would be in

if he wants to e-shift into 1st gear, he needs to get a camcon engine management unit.

yes this is the only way to get to 1st gear! while you are driving in D mode and shift over to Manual it goes to 5th gear and you can shift all the way down to 2nd. From a stop if you shift over from D mode to Manual it goes into 2nd but when you hit the gas pedal it does go through 1st gear for a small period. Then you can shift after it hits the 2nd gear and go up to 5th gear. The only way to stay in 1st is to get the camcom engine management.

Or a cheaper way is just to hold it with the gate shifter at L

Another option is the Powertrain Control Solutions standalone auto transmission controller. I think it runs about $700 or so. Probably still cheaper than getting the whole camcom ecu unit.
