2003 Gs3 Hid
just got the car with 30000 miles for $23 out the door, and was wondering if it had factory HID kit installed. it has a Denso wiring unit by the headlight and wondering if it was the HID kit. if it was, what kind of bulb would i need to order? and if its not, what would be a good place to order the HID kit from.

Welcome to CL. Congrats on the purchase.
The quickest way is to see if you have factory HIDs is to turn on the lights. What happens when you turn on the headlights? Does it move up, down, and settle into position? If so, that is the self-level mechanism of the GS HIDs system.

You can tell if the headlights are HID or not with a few simple tests. Some of the other guys here have mentioned a few. I have a suggestion...turn on the headlights without the engine running. Don't even put the key in the ignition. If it's halogen all you will hear is a click of the relay turning on the bulb followed by silence. If you hear a click followed by a very high pitched whining noise then you have HID's 
Edit: You might have to listen carefully. Some ballasts are much quieter than others, but ALL hid ballsts will whine. If it's halogen, then it will make zero noise. Make sure to do this test with the key not in the ignition. Also, HID bulbs will flicker when you turn them on initially. The light output starts out a little dimmer and is blue/purple-ish, then it will ramp up to full brightness within 5-10 seconds or so. A halogen bulb does not flicker when turned on and the brightness level does not change at any time during operation.

think you guys are missing what hes saying.. sounds like he knows theres no hid in there right now, he thinks it might have had HID (that someone removed) and wants to know how to tell if he currently has HID housings with rigged up normal halogen bulbs... correct me if im wrong supra06

think you guys are missing what hes saying.. sounds like he knows theres no hid in there right now, he thinks it might have had HID (that someone removed) and wants to know how to tell if he currently has HID housings with rigged up normal halogen bulbs... correct me if im wrong supra06

yep just got it n same color as rayy Millennium Silver, and ill take pics later on, and yes the fogs are yellow, we have a es300 in the family and the gs lights are much brighter, but they are both yellow, would they be the 3000k hid? its has a 9006 bulb+ the Denso unit to the SIDE of the headlight not bottom

upstateG4, yes thats what im trying to say, sorry for the confusion, i think its rigged up housing with the normal 9006 Sylvania bulb, correct me if im wrong also, new to the HID thing
