What is the difference in the navigation software?

03 nav got upgraded a bit on the software and layout, not too major.

voice activated has been the case all along. the 2gs never got voice recognition though, i believe, if that's what you asked

there is never a dvd player on the 2gs...

I have a '03 with nav but looked at a lot of '01s before I bought mine. As far as I could tell, there is no difference that I could see. The ML, nav, and controls all seemed the same. The only significant change is perforated seats on 03+ and the option packages changed, but the options themselves are the same.

You are correct, however, the upgrade was in '02. '01's had a gen 2 navi, while '02-'05 had the 3rd gen navi. There are lots of little differences, nothing really major comes to mind.

'03's got revised part number (sealed) front headlamps, different CD changer, perforated seats, and 7spoke 17's.

'04-'05 same as '03.
