2Gen GS VS. 3Gen GS - stupid question?

Well with a combination of debt including your mortgage, your Z06 car loan (nice car), and your wife's student loans, that would seal the deal for me. I would save the 20K for a rainy day. BUT, if you seriously have the itch for a GS and your willing to sacrifice, a 2GS 400/430 is the way to go for you. A 3GS would be out of the question. With your concern about gas mileage, the beautiful thing about the GS4XX, is that the lower gear ratio and the fact that it only weighs a bit more than the GS3, you will only be getting 2-3 mpg less than a GS300. Oh yea and 75 more ponies....

Now it's a question of do I get a high miles 430 for more torque or a 400 and put money towards mods...
I've already read all the suspension stuff for hours on here, I'm thinking L-tuned shock/spring with the daizen anti-sways. I'm just worried about alll the reports I read about the shimmy's and shakes through the wheel at highway speed, as my drive is 85% hwy. I'm also going to have to figure out how to install a ES300 pass through in the trunk for skiis. Hmm....
Also I don't really care about the .3 seconds between the 350 vs. 400 for speed, I already have a car that does 0-60 in 3.9 seconds....

I was buzzed. Didnt feel like I had any buisness driving. So why do people think that the 350 is faster? Perhapse im missing something. I think you should not push ur budget and get what you know you can afford since you already have a fast car. But personally I wish my 400 was a 430.

We dont 'think' the 350 is faster. It just is.
The 3.5L V6 just keeps on making more power the higher the revs. Our V8s are midrange performers. After 5k RPM, it slowly pulls to redline. I highly doubt we would be making 300hp on the new SAE standard. If anything, we're probably making around 290hp. The GS350 makes 306hp on the new SAE standard.
Coupled that with the awesome transmission and rear differential, the GS350 is going to get up to speed quickly. Although the GS350 has less torque at the engine, the torque multiplications via gearings more than makes up for it. In fact, in 1st gear alone, the GS350 makes more torque than the GS400/430 in the same gear. In order for us to make as much power (peak torque-wise), we need at least 3.92 gearing in the rear.
But of course on the streets, anything could happen. Most of the times obtained by magazines are from torque-breaking launches, which I highly doubt most moms know how to do.
