Wow, look at me, resurrecting a nearly 1 year old thread. This just shows me how slow I move.
This past weekend I sold my GS400 on a whim. Listed it on Craigslist and the calls started flying in. It helps to be selling a car that stands out from all of the regular cars on the road.
Test drove a few cars this week, and while the LS430 is not the same as the GS400, I did feel that they were very similar. Even the switchgear was too similar, and I have always had a problem with the seats in my GS400. I am 6' 0", but all leg, and the cushions are just not long enough on the bottom. The LS430 was better, but didn't feel like they had enough support.
I made my way to a few dealers and test drove the A8L. It definitely has that European driving feel without being harsh. I love the huge back seats, with my seat all the way back my kids still can't push my chair while sitting in their car seats.
The best feature to me, as a used car buyer, is the depreciation. The A8L I am getting is a CPO 05, loaded with nearly every feature except the rear fridge, with only 28K miles, for only $32K. That is a huge loss, and show's how much better Lexus holds up their value. Since I hold my cars for 8+ years I'm not too worried what it will be worth at the end, as pretty much any car with 150K miles and is 10+ years old is not worth much.
I have to say I have love my GS400, and my wife's RX300 has been perfect for the past 4 years. I will continue to check out the forum here as the GS400 really will go down in my mind as one of the best cars ever made.

I sold my 01 LS430 UL for my GS4, everytime I got in the GS I miss my LS. I was spoiled by LS430 too much.
Only thing I like about GS is there are tons of mods for it, and it look good!
Also, GS feels faster than LS.
But I sold my GS 3 yrs after and bought LS430 UL again.
Nothing better than LS fits my needs. Style, Power, features, comfort, room, RELIABILITY!!!!!

dude a q45 will not disappoint. when i lived in j-pan this was about the closest rival to the ls430 (some even say better) but yet offers something different... the cima was the highest end one they made on that chassis and they are a better car than the a8l in many aspects (as long as your not in a car race like in that movie ronin).. if i made another vip car in the states other than the new ls460 it would have to be a q45 with cim cima body kit + styling.
