You probably do more damage by not filling up before your car goes empty.
Once you get down to the last 1/8th tank or so, the filter starts sucking up sediments on the bottom of the tank, which in turn clog up your fuel filter and some get past and into your motor.
Just make sure you fill up your tank once it gets down to the 1/4 mark.

Glad to hear that everything worked out fine for you. Spoke with our tech's in the shop about running the tank to empty and they say the pick up sits about a 1/4 inch off the bottom of the tank. Unless you put the junk into your tank, you will probably never run an issue of it getting into the fuel filter.

man that's a dumb guy. good thing it worked out for you. just keep your eyes open for anything out of the orginary and report it to them ASAP so they can fix it for you.
