Default Grinding noise when braking... HELP

Sup everyone.... since a couple of days ago, when i press the brakes all the way down i have been hearing like metal to metal rubbing/ grinding noise coming from the rear passenger side tire.

Today has gotten worse, so i finally got a chance to take off my rims to check. I notice around the outer side of one of the rotors are all scraped up all around. I checked the other rotors around and they look fine...

Can this be my 20s wearing out my brakes? do i need new brakes? what can this be? I have a 2000 GS300 on 20s, and i am not a mechanic/ DIY type person so i don't know what to do at the moment... hope to hear from you guys soon...

Maybe taking out the brake pads will give you a better look at what could be wrong!

There's an inspection window on the caliper below your hand on the backside. Take a flashlight and look in. There are inner and outer pads and between them you should see the rotor. There should be a few mm of pad on both sides. If one side is worn more then the other, you may have a stuck caliper. If you don't see any pad, just the backing plate that the pad was attached to, that's your problem. You probably need your rotors turned and new pads. How many miles do you have on them?

i don't think those rotors can be machined to be within the factory specs. Looks like you are gonna need new rotors and pads.

you'll definitely need new rotors and pads. if you can take off that wheel, you can do your brakes. seriously.

I had the dealer put on new brake pads and rotors all around 40,000 miles ago.... how long do brake pads and rotors usually last? can this be my 20s putting on too much stress on them? is this still driveable or should i get this repair asap?

They should last about 60k under perfect conditions, but heavy and late braking will prematurely wear them out. Take it by the local service department and see if any of the tech's will do the brake job for cash, on their spare time of course. Otherwise look into downloading instructions about DIY brake job for your car.

I dont know where you get those figures from but real world usage is about 20000 miles max for me. I drive slightly agressive though.

Most rotors can be turned if they aren't too bad. That one looks really scored. If you drive conservative, your rotors can last a lot longer then 40k. I just replaced mine after 40k with slotted rotors and they look great.

You answered the question for me. Most people do not drive the way you do and if you are only getting 20K out of a set of pads, you need to slow down and get off the brakes. I turn my rotors about every 30k, due to occasional worping, and replace pads every 60k. I must admit I do more highway than city, but I am a late braker.

I finally heard back from the dealer and they said my rear brake pads are worn out, front lower ball joint and front control arm are also out, total bill = $2,000...
