Default So today I paid a visit to 104st auto shop in jamaica

I've heard so many great things about Gazi's shop so I decided to drop by today to get a daignosis of what's wrong with my ride (01 GS3). Lately, the steering has been wayy off and its been quite bumpy, and the car shakes while braking from 60mph+. Anyways, I found out today that my front end is really shaky and I'll need to replace the steering rack, the bearings, and bushings. From what I know, Daizen makes really good bushings, but I'm clueluess of what's the best steering rack and bearings for the price out there.

O btw, I just did some DIY mods this morning as well, I fixed my HIDs, replaced my 12LED blue parking lights with 12LED xenon white ones, as well as installing clear OBX side markers with 6LED xenon white bulbs, ill get pics up as soon as I find a way to transfer the url over from facebook or find another site to post my pics on, seems like facebook image urls dont work =/

Why don't you upload them to the Club Lexus photo gallery?

if not, here are a few other options for hosting photos

Which brand of steering rack should I buy and bearings? Is the dealership the best place to go for those parts?

Thanks Seize for the help with pics

Stick to the proven OEM unit.

is there a leak in your steering rack? What's the problem with it? It could be something simple as your steering rack bushings being so worn out. I say give those a try before buying a new rack. In fact, if you end up needing a new rack, you can switch over the steering rack bushings. Daizen is the only company so far to make Polyurethane bushings for our rack. It's worth every penny, and more.

Well the problem with my rack according to the mechanic is the gearing inside the rack is going out so occassionally my steering will slip and thats y im getting my understeer/oversteer on turns.

Question: wut is the "core" of the steering rack, I see alot of sites giving a price for the rack then another price about 1/4-1/5 of the rack labeled as "core". sorry im noob =(

Wooo!

Is it the main rack thats gone? or the rack guides & tensioners?

The rack guides and tensioners are available in off-the-shelf small parts !

See page 3 of the parts diagram!

that's interesting, the mechanic didnt say anything but told me to replace the whole rack, he just took crobars and yanked at everything in the front end, shook my wheels and told me I need a rack, lower and upper bearings, and all the bushings replaced. =/

Definitely have a second opinion. Dealers usually charge about $100 for a diagnostic inspection.

Find a local independed Lexus shop.
