Default Advice on which GS to buy

Hi all

I am debating between two different GS as to which to buy. I need some advice

1) 1998 GS400 - 2 owner car, 110K miles, in good condition (paint chips, 2 dings), needs new rims (I don't like chrome), asking around $11k (dealer)

2) 2001 GS430 - 2 owner car, 90K miles (timing belt done) in good condition (paint chips, 1 scrape (to the primer) and 1 dent (small on bumper), needs tires, asking around $14k (Private seller)

Both drive fine, no evidence of accidents and both are CA cars (no rust issues)

Which would you buy?

Thanks in advance

I would spend the extra $3k on the GS430. You get 20k miles less and a good amount of updates. Newer taillights, newer instrumental cluster, and a few other goodies.

Not to mention, it's 4 years newer.

I think the GS430 is reasonably priced. Its pretty tough to find a GS430 with low miles for that price, especially in California.

Default Followup: more info

On the 2001 GS430, I had a pre-purchase inspection done. Evidence of paint and body work--trunk lid and glass above rear quarterpanel replaced. Owner claims someone broke into the car to get the wheel lock key and steal the rims/tires (common in LA?)

Tech thinks it might be a theft recovery but the Carfax search comes out clean.

Front brake rotors need replacing as do all four tires.

Sigh....

With the new info, would you walk away?

werewolf~that may be the reason why the price seems so tempting. kind of buyer beware. honestly, as most have mentioned, get a 430, and if you got change for my 2 cents...keep looking. you want a car thats as clean as you can get...just be patient. it'll come to you.

oh and yes, if was me, i'd be doing a sprint away from it. but that's me.
