Default GS300 Question

I went out and test drove a GS300 today at a local dealer. When driving, the salesman told me that I could shift between the gears and use it like autostick. He also said that Lexus designed the GS300 to be driven like that if we wanted to without any consequence to the transmission.

I thought this WOULD be bad for the tranny though b/c I've never heard of Lexus outright saying that GS300's could be driven like that?

Would anyone care to share their wisdom on this?

that's GateShifting, meaning shifting gears using the lever. Like when you're at a light, you can keep it in 1st or 2nd or whatever so when you're in that gear it won't shift up anymore. Like manual cars.

As long as you don't downshift when your RPM is too high and might drop into redline zone, it's fine.

yes the GS3 can be gate shifted or on the newer models the buttons on the steering wheel can be used to shift.. its not bad for the car i have 90k on my 1998GS3 and very often do gate shifting.. no problems yet!
