I have noticed what seems to be a small motor or compresser turning on and off for like 5 seconds in front of the car around the drivers side. When Im driving or stopped at a light the motor kicks in for 5 seconds then shuts off. It is not the fans, sounds like a air comprssor like the one I used to have in my 99 Deville in the rear for the air suspension.

what can this noise be? I just got the car 98 Gs300 48k miles on it. and the AC is off so it cant be the clutch engaging.

any ideas?

It's the ABS motor. It does a routine check on the system. Completely normal.
