I test drove the IS350 when it came out. I stepped out of it and decided as nice as it was, no thanks.
It was fast. I had no idea at the time that it was 4.9s (or a bit more) to 60mph! What I didn't like was the intrusive engine sound. I like a motor to make race-track noises when I floor it, but not all the time. My stock GS4 is always quiet despite the position of the so-called loud pedal, which is better than being noisey all the time. It's a vote for peace and quiet over a constant pounding of the ear drums.
Another thing I disliked about the IS was the small backseat in comaparison to my GS. I don't sit back there, but it gives me much satisfaction when backseat passengers comment on the amount of room back there. I'm odd, but so are you. With the GS' big bones and large back seat comes a surprisingly small trunk. I hate that part, but the IS looks like it might suffer from the same fate.
Another thing I didn't like in the IS was the center console and shifter surround. I understand there's an option for wood, which would be nice. My GS interior is aging quite nicely in terms of design and quality of materials.
...then why is it that I'm always captivated when an IS motors by?! It's an awfully good looking car. It's damned fast. And, it's a Lexus.

I dont expect the GS will leave our family anytime soon, likely to stay as a second car if it doesn't need major repairs.
If I got an IS, I'm waiting for the folding hardtop coupe, and it would need a 6 speed manual with more power than the current IS350.

Nope. I waited for this GS since 98. Be hell to pay if I wanted something else now....(besides a LS or Q45
)
I've driven the IS350. First thing that hit me is "Holy munky this thing is small." With the GS I fit nicely my shoulders aren't smashed into the B pillar. In the IS... well I feel like a Gorilla in a Tonka truck. The IS is quick but way to small. With the seat set for me to be comfortable it becomes a 3 passenger car. My other half is considering it. I've always seen the IS as being a girls perfect ride. Can't complain with another Lex in the family.

Abolutely not. The GS has better design, more space, and, in my opinion a lot more class. If the funds were there, I would consider owning both, but I'd never take the IS350 over my GS4.
