Default my 98 gs4 has a low idle like 400 rpm

what is the stock idle when it's in drive position? my idle is at 400 or little below, but there is no stalling. What could be the problem? is this normal?

The lowest our tach reads other than 0 is 500rpm. Are you sure you're not looking at 600rpm?

Ok i just went outside and checked. 4th line down does look like its 400rpm.

That's very odd since most GS idles around 550-650 rpm.

Perhaps its time to clean out the idle control valve. It gets very dirty and not too many people clean it. It made a tremendous difference on my car. Idle was noticeably smoother too.

scroll down to the post I made. I provided pictures.

You can open it to check. But if it's dirty and you want to clean it, take out the throttle body and clean everything. You can probably use a toothpick to clean out the hole if you don't want to take out the TB, but I did everything at once.

Most people are not aware that this exists on our car. Most cars have their throttle plate open just a bit at idle so air can go in. On the GS however, we have these little holes instead.
