GS400 Wheel Question.......
Are the stock measurements of the 1998 GS400 wheels 17.0 x 8.0?
How do you determine what size and dimension you guys want for your rims?

The most import thing is to keep the diameter of the wheel the same. +/- few percentage is OK. If you don’t keep that, your speedomemter is off. Millage reading is off…
Rim size is personal preference. The bigger the rim, the lower profile tire you will have to use. 17” / 8” is the stock size. It requires at least tire size of 233/45/17. 17” is very practical/comfort if you live in area where road condition is always bad. Potholes are the number one enemy of the low profile tires. Keep in mind, the 235 does not have enough grip for GS4.
18” / 8.5” is for the look and retains some comfort of the Lexus. It requires at least tire size of 245/40/18. There are two options that CL member will argue for the 18 “ and larger: (Same size for all 4 tires or stagger). Advantage of stagger is that the rear wheel can handle up to 285 for ultra grip when lunch from dead stop. Disadvantage is that since they are the diff size, you can’t rotate the tires. Most of the members here use the directional tire, which can’t rotate left/right. But these high profile tires does not last long any way. You don’t really rotate them….hahaha..
Plus, the high performance of the 18”, you still have some confidence when race on street side by side, where avoid pot holes at 100+ is not really an option.
19” or larger: wait for someone else to post reply. I think they are cool looking but not practical in area of bad road condition. I would have to drive like a old man to avoid the potholes. Road Race in a bad road condition: Not even funny… You will have to give up that.
