I've put about 1000 miles on it so far. There is a sticky on just this topic in our forum, be sure to check that out. I'd say both are great cars. The newer one has some nice interior upgrades like the wood steering wheel, compass, steering mounted radio stuff, seats feel more comfortable.. powerwise seems about the same, newer trans seems a bit more smooth or maybe the 400 gives a greater sensation of acceleration.. gas mileage perhaps the newer one has an edge, I got 18/22 on the 400 and so far 19-20 in town and 23+ on the freeway on the 430. Preference, either are great cars.

GSteg asked, Any reason why you went from a 400 to 430?
I just picked up this one for the lower mileage, cleaner paintwork and fresh interior. Cosmetically much better and the newer paint has a lot more pearl which looks nice when it is clean.

j stuff asked, Weird why would you get a whole new car? The only way id figure it is if it had a lot less miles and was in better condition and not paying as much.
Just mileage and cosmetics, my 400 has 124.8K on it and while mechanically in great shape, it has its road wear, scratch here and there, and wear on the interior, etc. Just wanted a fresher newer car and found this one, 36k on it, well taken care by an individual vs a dealer. I know, I have too many cars, you sound like my wife! I know four cars is crazy but I'm working on reducing my inventory!!

bigmemory asked, Honestly though, doesnt the stock suspension and tires ride smoother feel better than your modded GS400 ?
Yes it is nice, lowered has compromises in ride as far as bumps, etc..but much more sure footed on the corners and handling no doubt.. each to their own, I can say I will at some point drop the 430 too.

Oh I do find myself missing the GS400 steering mounted shifter buttons, kinda cool for highway and offramp slowdowns..the 430 does not have the feature.

lol sorry for sounding like your wife man

it crossed my mind to get a bit of a newer model with less miles and less wear being the same cost as what i currently owe. But decided not to go through the hassle, also i cant let go of my car!

Cool, glad you can take a joke!!

One thing I did forget to mention, the GS400 has Nakamichi and the 430 I got is only the "Premium" sound; I wish it has the "ML" upgrade...there is not much depth or power to the "Premium" sound system, unfortunately...

Wheels update.....I ran across a set of the chrome TRD 18x9's on Craigslist, and threw them on the 01 GS430. These TRD's are very light and kinda cool being a factory Toyota/Lexus wheel. I could only take the OE 16" wheels for so long.. still stock suspension and probably will be for a while. Tires are about worn but are 245/45 18, sorta big but fill that big wheel well a bit. I used the center caps from my OE 17x8 chrome wheels, they popped right in.

I thought the tail lights changed to the newer style in 2001? I must be wrong.

Hot looking car either way.

Maybe you're talking about the 1963 Ford Falcon Sprint in the garage. How do you like those big ole round tails! Reminds me of Mayberry cop cars. Funny part is that old Ford has a 260 CI V8... which coincidentally equals 4.3 L....

It might have been, I'm not sure. Wasn't my garage so I swapped out the picture...

Nice pick up! GL!

On a side note, I noticed that a lot of you guys on this thread have really low mileage GS'. I have a 2000 with about 97K on it. About 12,000 - 13,000 mi/year. You guys are around 7,000 - 8,000 mi/year! Did you guys all buy your GS' from old people? lol...I always get tempted to sell mine and get a lower mile GS but I always decide against it and say that I'll have to mod all over again....besides my car runs great still.
