Volume controls mounted on steering wheel
The other day I came across a 98 GS400 with steering mounted volume controls. Not sure if it was to control the radio like the ones in the Acura or if it was to control the volume for a built in cell phone. These volume controls looked really nice on the steering wheel and looked to be from Lexus. Does anyone know anything about these steering mounted control buttons and if it was offered as an option from Lexus?
Thanks

I know that Lexus offered the remote radio controls in the 2001 models after they eliminated e-shift on the GS4, but not before. That option may very well be for a cell phone if it's on a '98 model.

It is the factory phone, but prior to 01 it was the Motorola Portable Plus, which (for me, at least) worked fine. In 01, they switched to a Sprint-based network, and I have heard that has, indeed, been a bug-prone feature.

It's the factory phone. I have it on my 99 GS400 and it looks cool, and it has speed dial buttons and when you press any button on the thing the stereo system mutes out too...but I hardly ever use it, the only time I use it is when I need to make an emergency call and either forgot my cell phone or if the batteries are out. I didn't buy the service for it but I can still use it if I have a calling card, credit card, or if I simply wanna call collect.
