Default I have searched this and every other forum.

1998 GS 400
I have no spark. Car cranks over strong.

The car began to die over several days of starting and running and then it wouldn't start again until the following day. Now it won't start at all. At first I thought it was fuel delivery since it did cough and sputter when I tried starting fluid.
After replacing the fuel pump and finding this wasn't the problem, I repalced the plugs this is when I found there was no spark.

No codes are thrown. Enigine has compresion. When the battery is almost dead the car will fire just briefly then die?

Could this be my ECU?

I have replaced the following:

Main relay, efi relay, fuel pump, and plugs.

Any sugestions? As I mentioned I haven't been able to locate any info on this matter.

Thanks in advance for your help.

before you replace those I would check to see if they are getting fire to the coil packs!

Do you have any type of security system that might be enable and stoping the car from starting?

1. My key has broken. The plastic seperated from the metal key. I have them together while trying to start. The key was broken several days before the car developed the problem.

2. My wife had my neighbor try to jump start the car when the problem developed and they accidentally jumped the battery with the cables backwards for a few minutes.

This is why I think it may be the ECU malfuntioning.

Try looking at the attached(I hope) file for some ideas. Sorry I do not have all the pages referenced.

If your key has broken then you may of damaged the immobolizer chip embedded within it. Here's the symptom of a broken immobolizer chip. Car will crank strong, but the engine computer will not spark or fuel the engine. My neighbor had that problem and asked me to take a look at it. It turned out that it was a key with a bad chip. I checked the plugs, relays, fuses, and everything. Engine was turning over strong as well. I had the same issue in my car when I installed my remote start alarm system. The remote bypass module wasn't programmed correctly and the car would crank but not start. If you have a different key, say a valet key then give that a go.

If they tried to jump it backwards then you better make sure ALL the fuses are good. If it is you might have fried the ECU. Imobilizer problems would throw a code.
Good Luck,

Will a 99 GS4 ECU work in 1998?

If I go with a SRT Intake will the ECU they provide stand alone or must it be Piggybacked?
